How to Dress a Triangle Body Shape
Our body type series is coming to an end. Today, we are going to talk about one of the most common body shapes that I see in Addie's Boutique. The triangle body shape, often referred to as a pear body type, has wider hips and thighs compared to the shoulders and bust. The waist is small and defined. If this sounds like you, you often have problems finding pants that are both curvy enough to fit your legs yet small enough to sit at your waist without gaping. While that may be frustrating, many women fall into the triangle shape body category. It’s even considered the healthiest body shape! You can flatter your figure with these 4 tips for dressing your pear body shape.
1. Accentuate Your Upper Body
Other body types are jealous of your small shoulders and waist! It’s easy to give the illusion of a slender body with your body type, so accentuate your best features by wearing tops that sit snugly around your upper body. If you want to create an illusion of more fullness in your bust, you can wear tops with embellishments, gathering, and ruffles. You can get away with puffed sleeves and high necklines, which bring visual balance to your body type.
2. Choose Bottoms that Bring Balance
Choose bottoms that skim your curves but don’t sit too tight or too loose. The right fit can downplay your curves which will make your hips look more proportional to your top half. Look for high-waisted jeans, or slim straight leg pants that will flatter your curves without drawing too much attention to them. Bootcut pants have a slightly flared hemline which will balance out your hips.
3. Use Color and Prints to Your Advantage
One visual trick you can use is strategically placing colors and patterns where you want the eye drawn. Light colors, prints, and bolder colors should be used on your upper body to draw attention to how slim your frame is. You can wear darker colors in your pants and skirts to keep attention away from your top half. You can wear vertical stripes on your bottom half, which will elongate your legs and make them look slimmer.
4. Fit and Flair
One of the best silhouettes you can utilize with your body type is the fit and flair. If you ever wear dresses or tops with skirts, choose one with a fitted top and an A-line skirt. The top will accentuate your top half while the skirt will flow away from your curves. Empire waist dresses also look nice on triangle shaped women because the seam right under the bust creates long lines which makes your legs look longer and leaner.
Your most flattering wardrobe is just a few steps away! You’re lucky to have the body you’re in, and when you use these 4 simple tips, you’ll look and feel your best! Visit Addie's Boutique to shop clothes that will make your body look amazing.
